Our Story
Imagine vast fields of wheat and maize under the African sun stretching to the horizon, ready for harvest. The community comes together to help with the reaping, threshing, and milling. After the work is done, the entire village celebrates with a feast.
The smell of fresh bread baked from the newly milled flour fills the air. As people bite into the fresh loaf, one elder remarks that the flavor is not just from the earth and sun but from the good spirit of their people.
The wheat flour travels to India, where a mother kneads the soft wheat flour. The flour, feeling the warmth of her hands, is shaped into a roti. You cannot miss the distinct aroma as it cooks on the tawa.
In an Italian kitchen, the flour is blended with eggs and a sprinkle of salt. It feels the quick motions as it is transformed into pasta dough.
In Africa, the maize flour is mixed with water and stirred into a smooth, silky paste known by many names such as ugali, pap, nshima, sadza, and posho. It is shared around the table with warmth and laughter.
The maize and wheat are not just ingredients but are at the heart of culture’s story. This realization created Chakula.
Our mission is to source maize and wheat products from the heart of Africa and ensure that they are readily available on your table in the US. 🇺🇸
